Chromebook & Laptop Keyboard Repair — Keys Dead, Double-Typing, Liquid Spill
Missing keycaps, sticky or random inputs after a spill, or no response at all?
EziRepair provides model-specific keyboard cleaning or full module replacement.
Pricing: Chromebook $120–$180, Laptop $180–$250 (incl. GST).
We Fix These Every Week
School Chromebooks and office laptops arrive daily with the same set of faults: lost keycaps,
liquid ingress, double-typing, and dead rows/columns. We source OEM-equivalent or verified compatible parts,
check backlight and connector specs, and test every key before hand-off.
- Chromebook keyboards/top-cases — $120–$180
- Laptop keyboards (backlit/non-backlit) — $180–$250
- Minor contamination — disassemble & clean if viable
- Heavy spill/track damage — full module replacement recommended
Seen Any of These Symptoms?
One key won’t register, types twice, or pops off. Spacebar/Enter feels odd. After coffee or water, the laptop types by itself.
An external USB keyboard works fine but the built-in one fails. These signs point to the keyboard module or ribbon, not the mainboard.
Bring it in early. Drying a spill can hide damage; sugar/dairy residues turn conductive and corrode tracks over time.
Recent Case Studies
HP Chromebook: kept entering a,s,d by itself after a drink spill. No board short; membrane contaminated.
Disassembly clean + keyboard module swap. Same-day return.
Lenovo Laptop: one key dead and keycap mount cracked. Part discontinued; full module replacement restored feel and reliability.
ASUS: double-typing persisted after OS/BIOS checks. Oxidised ribbon near hinge. Replaced ribbon and keyboard together.
Acer: missing keycap wouldn’t stay due to broken tabs. Frame-integrated keyboard swap solved it quickly.
Why Keyboards Fail — And How We Fix Them
Key membranes and domes wear; spills leave conductive residue; ribbons crack from heat and hinge tension.
Flooding alcohol can strip printed tracks. We test, clean, and replace modules where needed. Your data stays safe.
- Conductive residue → phantom or stuck keys
- Dome wear → weak or no actuation on specific keys
- Ribbon oxidation/micro-cracks → intermittent rows/columns
- Chromebook top-case assemblies → palmrest+keyboard swapped as one unit
Every repair ends with a full key-matrix test and backlight check (if applicable).
Service Scope, Pricing & Warranty
Pricing covers diagnosis, disassembly, cleaning where viable, and keyboard or top-case replacement for the quoted model range.
Some premium/backlit assemblies may price at the top end due to stock or layout.
Warranty is RTB (Return to Base) and covers part defects and workmanship.
It excludes impact, pressure damage, liquid exposure, external tampering, and misuse.
If the keyboard fails again within warranty and there’s no sign of external damage, we fix it free.
If damage is user-caused, we’ll quote a fair repair price.
